A lot of white folks in CA that support gay marriage are piling on this survey to blame "the black vote," or blacks in general, for the prop passing. Questions about the accuracy of using such small numbers to determine the voting habits aside, I'm stuck by the fact that there are much better people to blame for prop 8's passage. Reminds me of NPR's traffic reports. Basically the Pro-8 people were on overpasses and busy intersections distracting drivers and causing general slowdown.

Jerks.

As someone who was involved in the No campaign, in hindsight, the black church community is a place we should have been more active. It's a shame that the campaign staff didn't see that up front, because we could have found some support there if we had really tried.

But the campaign staff was way too cocky about their base. They cared more about educating already swayed minds than swaying new ones. There was no outreach.

White male republicans self reported as 85% voting for prop 8. Where is the out cry about the how the "douche bag vote" is screwing people.

Gay marriage is an issue that usually falls across party lines, so I think few people are surprised that douche bags voted overwhelmingly for Prop 8. A group of people who statistically tend to vote democrat breaking party on this issue in significant numbers is more noteworthy.

Not that I am in any way saying it's okay to run around calling people the n-word and saying "Blacks did this." I'm just saying that if you're going to try and sway people to the No on 8 side, the black church community is probably a lower-hanging fruit than white male republicans.

That being said, the poll the 70% figure came from does seem to have questionable validity.
