When it comes to clothes I am a little too big for a small and a little too small for a medium. Which means I'm always debating which size to go with.

This winter I've had a rough time buying things that are a little too big thinking "this will shrink to be the PERFECT FIT!" It never does. So now I have these three sweaters that I think might ( Read more... )

This is an awesome post 'cause I have exactly the same problem: Too big to be small-too small to be medium. I've been lucky with buying things like shirts and sweaters that JUST fits me...but then there was that one year where all the clothes I washed, which used to JUST fit, all shrunk on me so they ended up not fitting anymore...and then I felt fat.

glad im not the only one! i need to get "perfect fit" clothing and have it dry cleaned maybe? instead of trying the luck of the draw with shrinkage

well, to prevent shrinkage, watch your fabrics (100% cotton will shrink 1/4 inch i believe) .. pre shrunk cotton is always a good thing, and wash your clothes in cold water.. hang dry sweaters on a hanger.. less chance of shrinkage.

good luck ;)

i'm just guessing, but i think if the sweater is long enough to not ride up above your waistband with typical use, it's probably a good size. i think length is closely correlated with general fit.

good measuring stuck!

the length is perfect after the shrink. but it feels a little snug in the arms (b/c all that muscle) and the belly (b/c all that fat!)

another good gage is where the shoulder seams sit...if they're in the appropriate place, the arm/chest fit is a-okay.

I used to have this argument with male crew members when I was trying to get them to wear appropriatly sized uniforms...they all wanted to wear their shirts obnoxiously baggie. I'd give them a medium shirt because they obviously wore medium, and they'd be all like "give me an extra larger manager beeyotch" or something to that effect. I'd make them put on the medium and show them the shoulder seams and the hem of the shirt sitting just above the hips...wow, it fits you...OMG! They'd still whine that the shirts were too tight...but they totally weren't.
