A/N: Attempt number one.
He doesn't want to dance because he plays the piano; it's what he does best and not all pianists are capable of singing to their own tune. Sometimes, Soul wishes that Maka is a little more independent, and a little more capable of dancing on her own because while he doesn't like to dance, with her or with anyone else, he likes to see her sway to the melody he plays, just for her. Sometimes, he wonders why a girl like Maka of all people would ask him to dance, both in this world and in that, because in all the stories he has read, it's always the guy who asks the girl to dance and not the other way around. He makes up his mind that he won't ever say yes if she asks him to dance, as long as she's doing the asking. And it will be a while before he thinks it's safe to be the one to ask her instead.
Until then, Soul would rather see her dance alone than with anyone else because he can't dance that well and he doesn't want to see her depend on anyone apart from him. Maka needs to be stronger, he thinks furiously as he pushes her towards her father, the only person perhaps whom Soul can stand to see Maka dance with. As do I.
