Wow, the party sounds wild. Sometimes it seems like it would be fun to go to something like that, but when you realize the party itself costs more than the fundraising will ever earn, it becomes more sad than anything. To me, it would probably be more like the State Fair -- a great chance to people watch and eavesdrop on random bizarre conversations.
Did you end up buying a brand new couch, or where did you find one? Steve and I are watching local auctions and Craigslist for any good deals. We don't yet have couch/loveseat lined up (I have a set, but they're more college than first home) nor a dining set. Hope to find both soon, but not critical to have immediately when we move.
We bought new. We got a slumber air sleeper couch from La Z Boy for our Den / Guest bedroom. Its like having a select comfort adjustable bed in the sleeper couch. It cost us about $1200, but that included custom fabric, the sleeper conversion and fabric protection (which we need because of the fat cat) We figured we needed new for one room at least since our living room couches are still those black 15 y/o hand me downs from my mom that were in our last place.
We still need to get all sorts of end tables and dining room chairs that actually match, but yeah you get those when you can afford to.
I don't know if it's *ahead* of schedule, but it seems to be at least *on* schedule. Steve and I went out to the site yesterday and actually walked through our unit. Hard hats and everything! They're still framing the 2nd level, but from the looks of it they might be able to start roofing soon. The building next door which they are also building is a little further than ours - that one has roof, windows, doors - seems they are trying to get things enclosed as quickly as they can, which is nice
