Tavi Gevinson has completely stolen my heart. I've been sort of passingly interested in her since I heard about her a few months ago and of course she's been in the media quite a bit recently what with all the runway shows.

She is awesome, isn't she? Blogs like hers make fashion accessible and fun and not so out of reach.

I love her for the same reasons you list. I am thinking of doing a blog post about her great response to Gold, and I'd love to quote your final paragraph. Would that be okay by you? And if so, how would you like me to attribute it? If not, that is totally totally fine--I just love what you've brought up about the way she inhabits childhood.

Oh, I really look forward to reading your post! And yes, please use the paragraph. You can just say, your friend Coco said blah blah blah.
It's just incredible to me that she is at the age when conformity is so necessary for social survival that she has no fear of doing her own thing and that she is not intimidated by the old guard who criticize her.

Yeah, if she's going to go with some kookie trendy things, then I'm glad that what she's gravitating toward is not the overly sexualized little girl look that so many of her peers are wearing. And I wonder if her look really is all that trendy. I don't see too many other peiople wearing Yokoo chain scarves with faux fur collared trench and plaid tights. But maye I'm not out at the right places.
I think an individualist voice from a 13 year old needs to be encouraged. I also think it's important to resist the urge to hold her to adult standards or expect her to be anything other than a 13 yr old. Having said that, her voice in fashion isn't just good for a kid, it's just really good.
