so i didn't watch the Bush speech last night because he makes me cringe and my face gets sore, but i scanned the transcript and noticed the omission of "May God Bless America" at the closing. I had to reread the last line to catch the newest nickname for the Almighty, "We go forward with trust that the Author of Liberty will guide us through these ( Read more... )

If he thinks his God is the "Author of Liberty" why is he so intent on restricting people's freedoms and civil liberties?

So Man would be "Editor of Liberty"?

Bush also used "Author of Liberty" in his second inaugural address. It appears in verse 4 of "My Country 'Tis of Thee": "Our fathers' God, to thee, Author of liberty, To thee we sing."

And here when I read the phrase, my first thought was:

Thomas Jefferson?

I don't know how it might have sounded to anyone who listened to it live, though, because I was a choir practice at the time.
