I get defensive when my coworkers suggest I am one of those
stereotypical women obsessed with shoes, but it is true that I have quite a lot of them, anyway. A few months ago, I put together (in a 13-hour, 3-person DIY orgy) a
a life-changing IKEA wardrobe* that features among its many bells and whistles a pull-out shoe rack. It is pretty full, I

What I want to know is, are you like that? What's your uniform?
I really do wear a uniform. my daily outfit consists of: black original-style (two-strap) Birkenstocks (with black socks in winter), black trousers and a casual shirt - usually long-sleeved and solid coloured, mostly polo, t-shirt or henley styles. I own a few patterned shirts, but they're not my preference. In cooler weather I throw a black hoodie over the shirt. I wear my hair pulled back in a knot at the nape of my neck, wear 5 silver bracelets on my right wrist, and small plain studs and hoops in my ears.
I'm lucky, as I can wear this to work as well as in my free time, I do own dresses, but last wore one for my interview 14 months ago - prior to that it had probably been at least a couple years since I'd worn one.

Was this a conscious decision on your part, or did your wardrobe just slowly narrow in on this particular ensemble until all clothes that deviated from the pattern slowly disappeared?

I got some black pants and really liked them, so bought more (I now own 8 pair, all identical). when purchasing new shirts, I kept looking past patterned and/or trendy, and before too long my wardrobe was full of solid-colour, mostly long-sleeved basics.
my niece complained a couple years ago about my boring clothing, and I admit I did pick up a few patterned and/or short-sleeved shirts as a result, but they end up signaling 'gotta do laundry soon', as the shirts I prefer are all dirty. *g*
I figure as long as I can get away with this at work, I'm set. if things change, I have a bunch of dresses stashed somewhere, and hopefully most would still fit.
