I was reading something the other day about "why people thought Mitt Romney was plastic/wooden/etc. in his appearance". The author of what I was reading said something along th emines of "being a Mormon, we are taught to avoid conflict as far as possible. This is one reason why Romney seemed distant from other politicians."
I suspect this is why many Mormons don't get into heated political debates about our chosen candidates. One, we tend to think along the same lines as each other, morally, and two, we don't like to fight about it.
I've often found myself wondering how I would act in a situation like that - most recently after watching Hotel Rwanda. It's a difficult thing for me to admit to myself that I would have done all I could not to get involved, and then when I could ignore it no more, I would probably run away. Standing and fighting doesn't feel like something I could do.
It's sobering to think about.

You know, after having been here, I feel like I'm much more willing to enter conflict because that is truly the only way people can really learn to better understand other perspectives. I'm not perfect at it quite yet, but I'm growing into that person and I don't really think that anyone should admit defeat, especially at such a young age! When it gets to be important, you will stand up and you will prove yourself wrong. You'll know it when it happens. :)
