Amores, on Thursday I am participating in a debate about the movie Scarface - a movie I find terribly racist but almost too boring to hate with any real passion.  To sum it up, basically I think it is a totally stupid movie and I don't get its appeal, especially to people who have had plenty of exposure to more interesting knock-offs, including the

The people who I know who like Scarface like it because it is a movie about a man who has nothing, and uses cunning and skills to make it big in the street economy. Also, that it is violent.

The bootstraps=easily tauntable.

as someone who grew up in certain kinds of miami cultures, i have seen this movie probably 25 times in my life. i am not sure i "like" the movie in the same way i never stopped to think about "liking" cuban spanish. it is just a part of the cultural landscape. but let me throw out some things that are appealing to people about that story
