Nice poem! I grew up on a street in the center of town - and the street itself was divided by a train track. I loved living there once I got used to the train schedule - 3 p.m. - a passenger, with a conductor who always waved to us. Two freights during the day - and a long freight in the middle of the night. Plus the midnight passenger train that rarely stopped in town.
I think I even still have a penny I put on the tracks.
That's mandatory, isn't it? A penny on the tracks! This train yard is very box car only... Isaac thought it was the Island of Sodor (where Thomas the Tank Engine lives) when he was a toddler. ;-) (That's 'cause my folks live not too far from the train yard, too, and we'd visit whenever we could.)
