... Its kind scary to look at cnn two days after returning back to the East Coast from vegas to find that an Airbus A330 flying from Brazil to Aftrica crashed into the Atlantic and took with it all aboard. Man, I really do hate flying.

That's strange, since you drive all the time.

2008 Aviation Statistics (worldwide):
#of accidents: 147
#of deaths: 876

Motor Vehicle Statistics:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the US
#of deaths last year: 43,000 in the US (1.8%of deaths nationwide)
-leading cause of preventable death in children worldwide, killing 260,000

You're more likely to die driving to the airport than sitting on the plane.

My statistically-ignorant logic is that with a car crash, at least you're on the ground, and potentially reachable, and there's at least some element of control (if you're driving, or in the passenger seat, even).

With airplanes, you're basically dead. You might land in the ocean, you might land on someone else's house, but either way it's probably going to explode. The end.

SO...good luck, Eric!! ♥ And Alaska, here I come!!

Thank you Emily Grace, someone understands. I dont' mind if I died on a plane... its the whole 36,000 foot (to put it in perspetive, roughly 7 miles) fall to contemplate "man this is going to suck." Doing all the physics out, taking into accoutn wind resistance, and assuming the terminal velocity is 120mph... well I tried doing out the equation, then gave up because its far more complicated than simple kinematics and no one wants me to do integrals, especially me lol. Suffice it to say, its over 20 seconds of falling.
