The psychological distress suffered by pilots when killing an enemy pilot can be peculiar. The units they pilot are armed with weapons that were designed to be lethal, it is only expected for them to inflict casualties upon opposing units should they come into engagement ( Read more... )

Too true, Miss Lovely. Kinda makes you wonder why in the computer age we live in, men and women still have to go out there and die.

Loveless.

War is inevitable, and combatants should be aware that they will most likely be killing some of their enemies during it.

While you do have a point, your analysis doesn't seem to account for emotional reactions.

They should be conditioned against it.

Again, while that may be true to a degree, it's rare that someone can condition themselves against it entirely. Not only that, but we've got a lot of inexperienced pilots, and people who probably shouldn't even be here.

Perhaps the base requires a mental conditioner.

Killing people shouldn't be easy or pleasant.

If it is, you should consider reevaluating your priorities.

It should not be excessively hard either . Especially with the reactions after killing a single enemy.

From what I've seen, Kira's one of the clearer thinkers I know.

Ms. Lamia...

When death is on your hands like that, you can't just be cold and logical about it. We all know what it is we're doing out there, and we all know why we have to, but that doesn't mean we can't feel remorse for it. If we didn't feel at least a little regret, we'd be monsters.

Excessive regret is unnecessary, however.

P...perhaps it's unnecessary. But it's not something to be looked down on either. It just means that...that all of this finally got to Kira for a moment. It's happened to me before too. Just quieter.

Well, not quite like this. Kira's medical logs are...confidential, is what they are.

At least it was quieter.

Medical logs? Could be useful.

I'd be inclined agree with you. But...

Kira believes strongly that enemies are not just faceless drones for us to defeat. Behind these machines, there is a living, breathing human being sitting in the pilot's seat. To cut one down so brutally is more than he can bear.

So, to that extent, I'd also be inclined to agree with Kira.

I hope he does not have that form of reaction again when he sorties against human enemies in the future.

Unless he wishes to somehow disable their units constantly and consistently.

It might be easy for you to kill, but for others, it is not.

Remember, you don't necessarily need to kill someone in order to beat them. Have faith in Kira. I'm sure once he finds himself again, he'll be as reliable as always.
