Writer's Note: This wasn't meant to be a Christmas fic. *laughs* It wasn't even meant to be a fic. Oh well. There's a lot of timeskips here, and there are lot of holes, but overall... *shrugs* Pointless fic, btw. Brought about Meru saying that (my drawing of a female!)Cloud would look like Naminé's sister. Then stoked and prompted some more by Fantasia. If anyone else wants anything to come out in the blank areas, just say so. Or at least try prompting me for it. *shrugs* I'm flexible?
When class ended, Naminé was one of the first to get out of her seat in search for her brother, a few pieces of bond paper held to her chest. She was really, really glad that she went to the Gainsborough Preschool, even if her brothers had to drag her out of her room to make her go.
She took off, seeing the tops of her brother's hair among the throng of parents but was blocked by her classmates' swarming at the doorway. She pouted, standing aside to wait patiently for them to leave.
"Here." A big hand reached for her and she looked into her teacher's bright smile and pretty eyes and took it gratefully. "Point me to your fetcher, okay?" She nodded again and pointed with their joint hands and was briefly led through the crowd.
"Niichan!" She let go of his hand when she caught sight of her brother's favorite blue shirt and launched herself at his leg, holding out her drawing shyly when he bent down to hug her. "They made us draw today and..." She looked towards her surprised-looking teacher. "Niichan, this is Zack," she said with a shy smile, clutching her brother's hand when her teacher finally came closer to introduce himself.
"Hi there," the brunet said with a charming smile that was, oddly enough, emphasized by the pink apron stained with watercolors. He held out his hand. "Zack Fair, her teacher. Naminé has lots of talent for someone her age. Did you teach her?"
"No," Cloud said in response, a slight smile gracing his face as he reached forward to meet Zack's hand. "I'm Cloud Strife. And Naminé's talent," he picked up his little sister and settled her on his arm, "is purely her own, isn't that right, Naminé?"
Naminé blushed and his her face in his shirt, earning a grin from her teacher and a hair ruffle that got her pouting.
"Will you be fetching her every day?"
"Yes, I will." A pause. "We have to get going now. We'll see you again tomorrow."
"I'm glad to meet you, Cloud. I'm looking forward to seeing you again." And Zack gave her another hair ruffle. "Naminé."
--((A few weeks later))--
"I think your teacher likes Cloud."
Naminé looked up from her sketchpad and nodded towards Sora. "He really does. They talks lots."
Roxas frowned. "I think he likes him too much." He turned towards his twin. "I don't like it."
"But Cloud hasn't been this happy for a long time..." Sora deflated under Roxas' impressively withering look. "I think Cloud needs Zack for a friend. They get a long really, really well."
"I still don't like it." The blond grumbled irritably.
"I think we should just leave them alone," Naminé said, reaching for the next crayon. "If it makes them happy, we shouldn't be sad about it."
Sora cheered. "Cloud will still love us anyway!"
Roxas huffed and flopped against his pillow. "Mrgh."
Their only sister nodded in agreement and sat up from Sora's bed where she was drawing. She held up her sketchpad. "Tell me, does it look like Cloud and Zack?"
--((A few months later))--
Zack clapped his hands to get his students' attention and grinned at the two dozen small faces that turned towards him, eyes bright and attentive.
He inwardly preened. He loved being a teacher. "We'll have a little activity," he said, leaning against his table with casual grace. "Get your drawing materials and you'll draw me something very, very important. Draw me what it is that you want to be when you grow up. We'll be sharing it in front of the class before we leave."
It was a very common question, really, and something that kids get sick of when they do grow up. Zack tilted his head back to look at the ceiling when the sounds of chairs scraping, papers crinkling and the tussle for a crayon commenced. It was also a very good way of learning about the personality of a child.
Child psychology and all that. He smiled fondly at the bowed heads and reached behind his table to pull out a small plastic jar of cookies.
"A gift," Cloud said with a blush when Naminé left them alone to greet one of her friends, Kairi. He took one of Zack's hands in his and pressed the jar into it. "For taking good care of my sister. I... I made them myself. I hope you like them."
He shook himself from his daydream and tried to wipe his silly grin off his face and checked the time. He clapped his hands again to call everyone's attention. "Alright, everyone. Five minutes to make finishing touches and then we'll start."
He made his way to the girls' table, ruffling Kairi's hair and getting a pout in response before patting Naminé's hair fondly. She was one of his favorite students. Aside from finishing her work early, she was also very behaved.
And no, it did not have anything do with older brother.
"Since you're finished, why don't you go first?" He coaxed, knowing that she was very shy. He was pleasantly surprised when the young blonde hurried to the front eagerly.
Naminé beamed at the class and raised her drawing that did not depict her but a spiky-haired blond boy Zack could recognize very well, holding hands with a spiky-haired dark-haired boy he could recognize even better.
"I want to become a mangaka so I can make pretty manga of my brother and Zack."
Zack could feel himself blushing hard and coughed, thanking Naminé and asked for someone else - Seifer, yes, Seifer - to go take his turn. He had to talk to Naminé's guardian about this.
He groaned inwardly when he remembered that Cloud was Naminé's guardian.
--((Many years later.... please don't spork me for the big gap!))--
Cloud raised his whisk and pointed it at Zack in defense. "No. You... You stay right there. I'm cooking Christmas dinner and so help me, you will not distract me while I'm doing it."
His older lover grinned, settling into a pose that Cloud identified as the one he used when handling the more precocious children. "Oh, but Cloud, I figured that we have a lot of time to prepare for dinner so we can just go and have some time to ourselves." He grinned and lowered his head, keeping his eyes on Cloud's. "The only thing left is dessert anyway. Besides, Naminé showed me her newest work. There's this one position that I just... want... to... try."
Cloud's eyes dilated as Zack punctuated his sentence with long licks at the batter that clung to the metal of his instrument. "Zack..."
The taller man grinned and took his wrist and dragged him up the stairs and into their bedroom, whisk and apron and all.
The fruitcake nearly burned down the house.
