The path of a digression

While writing an entry in my user journal that is at most tangently related, I came up with an idea for a Code Lyoko RPG scenario. True, the idea was inspired by a hook from a specific role-playing game, but sometimes the best springboards for creativity are somebody else's ideas. While not fleshed out, the concept is this: the players' ( Read more... )

I came up with more for the theme I mentioned above. See below and please enjoy.

Children of Lyoko

This game takes places when the characters from Code Lyoko have grown up. X.A.N.A. has been defeated, and Lyoko is now an officially recognized network. Portable scanners, built by Jeremie Hopper - as a courtesy to Aelita, he took her last name when they married - allow "in-house" virtualization. Kadic students mostly use Lyoko as a video game. Mysteriously, the supercalculator has been reactivated. Some important missions require virtualization at the factory, for reasons Jeremie has yet to discern. You are the children of the main characters of the original series.

Base

I will be using Tri-Stat dX and the game will be run as Tri-Stat d8 for “posthuman” power level.

Official Couples

For the purposes of this game, the official couplings are:

Not surprisingly, I have come up with some more ideas for this theme.

Under the "Special Rules" heading:

Since 100 seems to be the "magic number" on Lyoko, characters are built with 100 Character Points.

The optional rules in play are: Increasing Stat Costs, Energy Points, and Shock Value.

To avoid being virtually lynched by the Code Lyoko fan community, I have chosen to play it safe with the couples and force Ulrich and Yumi together as Mr. and Mrs. Ishiyama-Stern.

The following adjustment belongs under the "Special Rules" heading: all characters must have the Confined Movement defect at rank 2, limiting them to Kadic Academy and the surrounding area. Because it is a required defect, the characters do not get Bonus Points for it, but it does count against the limit of 8 defects total.

Lyoko

Virtualization & Materialization: Health and Energy Point totals are completely refilled upon normal virtualization.
Virtual Envelope: The standard virtual portfolio has a total of 100 life points.
Damage: All damage inflicted on Lyoko is done in multiples of 10.
Special Powers: Depending on the nature of a character's special powers, they burn either Health Points or Energy Points on Lyoko.
