Introduction
This is the first, and perhaps only, installment in "What if Jeremie Forgot?"
What if Jeremie Forgot? was intended to be a series of micro-fics exploring what would happen if Jeremie Belpois had forgotten to tell Aelita about the subtleties of human life. As such, it takes place before Aelita is realized to be human.
It is the day after CODE: Earth, early morning, at Yumi’s house. Aelita descends the stairs, holding wet sheets. On the way down, she passes Yumi, with a questioning look on her face, “Yumi, what happened?” “Looks like you wet your bed Aelita.” “Jeremie didn’t mention anything about that,” “That’s odd. Well, it is your first day, we’ll explain it as you being scared if anyone asks. Now, let’s take your sheets to the laundry room, and get you cleaned up.” Yumi leads Aelita to the laundry room, and takes the sheets. “I’ll get you a towel,” she says as she leaves. When she returns, Yumi hands the towel to Aelita, “use this to cover up for now.” Aelita wraps the towel around herself and Yumi takes her skirt and panties. Yumi gets the wash going and escorts Aelita to the bathroom.
Getting Aelita to adjust is like taking care of a baby, thinks Yumi. “This is the bathroom,” she says, and pointing to each fixture in turn, names them and continues, “I suppose you’ll need me to show you how to use these things.” Aelita just nods. Yumi closes the door, “then today we’ll shower together.”
Later, at Kadic Academy’s courtyard, Odd, Ulrich, and Jeremie are sitting on the steps of the cafeteria. Aelita and Yumi approach, Yumi looks irritated, and Aelita still looks confused. Aelita is wearing the yellow shirt and pink jacket, as well as some of Yumi’s black pants and combat boots. Jeremie greets Aelita enthusiastically, but is interrupted by Yumi, “What’s the big idea Jeremie,” she asks, shoving him gently. “Excuse me,” he asks, put off by Yumi’s question. Yumi continues in a whisper “why didn’t you tell Aelita about using the bathroom? She wet her bed last night. As it’s her first day, I can explain this one as fear, but that won’t work if it keeps happening.” “It must have slipped my mind, after all I was working day and night on that materialization program.” Aelita interrupts the whispered conversation, “There’s this weird feeling, just above my legs.” “Ok Aelita, I’ll take you to the bathroom,” says Yumi, and she takes Aelita’s hand.
Aelita and Yumi are almost at the girl’s bathroom when Aelita says “never mind, it’s gone now.” Yumi looks and sees that Aelita has had another accident. And now she needs diapers, Yumi thinks, annoyed. This just keeps getting better and better. Escorting Aelita into the bathroom anyway, Yumi and Aelita emerge after Yumi has dried Aelita off. They then change their heading for the infirmary. As the nurse dismisses them, she says “Just bring her here when she needs a change.”
Aelita’s entry to the classroom is accompanied with a loud crinkling sound. As Yumi sits down, she whispers to Jeremie, “Great, now I have to toilet train her too.” Herve says “No surprises that you’d make friends with another weirdo,” to Team Lyoko in general. “Yeah, I see you picked a real winner,” adds Sissi, following with her annoying laugh.
At the end of the school day, Aelita and Yumi are about to leave from the front gate, although they are turned to go downtown. “Well, see you tomorrow boys. Now I need to go downtown and buy more diapers for Aelita because someone forgot to tell her about using the bathroom.” Jeremie says, “I said I was sorry,” defensively. “Don’t get so worked up,” says Odd. “Odd’s right,” Yumi continues, “even if you had told her, we’d probably still need to do this.” Aelita looks at Yumi, seeming a little concerned, “we’d better hurry Yumi. I’m wet again and I only have two extras that the nurse gave me.” “I am not looking forward to explaining this to my parents,” Yumi adds, and then inspects Aelita’s diaper. Sighing heavily, Yumi thinks I don’t have time to get her to a bathroom but I also don’t want her to have a leak. “Hey Jermie, can you and the boys cover me while I change your girlfriend?” Jeremie blushes, but the males form a line, standing shoulder to shoulder, looking back at the school, talking amongst themselves.
Later, Yumi and Aelita are walking home from the store, with Yumi carrying a bag in her left hand, and she and Aelita are holding hands like mother and child. What I would give for a X.A.N.A. attack right about now, Yumi thinks. Aelita, however, seems blissfully unconcerned. When they arrive at Yumi’s house, Yumi is initially questioned about the laundry until her parents see the contents of the bag. “I bought them for Aelita,” Yumi explains, “it seems she has accidents for a while when she’s away from home”. Her parents look at each other, but ultimately accept the explanation.
A maniacal laugh is types itself out across all three monitors of the supercalculator. Spacing down a little, X.A.N.A. continues, “Sure, she’s in your world now, but is it worth it?”
