The idea that a band may be misogynistic for including rape as a narrative element (admittedly, kind of a lot of it, though among kind of a lot of other horrible things) bothers me, that article does make a really good point: Meloy does seem to have difficulty/lack of interest in writing from a woman's perspective. It's telling that he's had to call in outside vocalists to voice female characters in his songs on his last two records, suggesting that he himself might be oddly uncomfortable voicing women himself.
Basically, I don't think it has anything to do with misogyny, but it is odd and represents a bit of a failing from him as a writer. Also, "A Cautionary Song" does suck.
