I know that /a/ thinks the character designs are fine, but I'm not big on it either. Something about it strikes me as cheap. Dunno what it is, but like you said, it's not very glorious or anything.
The first show was good and I'm not necessarily sure why they needed to remake the show to fit the manga. I think they're just capitalizing on a popular series. :\ The only good thing I've found in this so far was their slightly more explicit scenes of the transmutation scene. I'm not sure if I felt the desperation in it like I had in the first show, though. But at least this looked better? XD
Ahhhhhhhhh yeah, it's not going that great so far. But I guess we'll see. I don't think it's really worth me staying up until 4am to watch it right now. Maybe later on when they reach parts that they never covered before in the other show.
The character designs are *fine*, but they're not really particularly awesome or anything, you know? I think the cheapish look at least partially comes from the fact that the designs are slightly less detailed than the first anime's.
Yeah, the transmutation scene was probably slightly more explicit, but at the same time, I kind of feel that the darker colours and more concealing shadows of the first anime might even make a stronger atmosphere. Sometimes it is as much about what you hide and leave to imagination as it is about what you show.
... Of course, I'm also quite sad that if the new anime seems to be a lot less Ed/Al inclined. ;_; Boo boo~! I want my fluffy luff-luff brothers!
Personally I've only found Geass worth getting up for. Even with all the bad qualities, Geass was really capturing and totally a rush to watch every week. Gundam00 was too slow and boring, whereas FMA just doesn't offer enough new stuff to make it worth special sacrifices.
True enough. I've seen the first one about three times now, but I feel like I should go back and give it another watch just so I can make some comparisons. I'm sure the first one wasn't as graphic, but I do remember it being just as effective. Hm. Well, I'll go back and watch it and see which one I like more now.
I'd say that Gundam 00 was worth watching if only for the crazy reactions of the diehard fans. It really cracked me up to read /m/ while I watched it. Plus, I had no idea what would happen - which is good, since I would usually find Sunrise to be sort of predictable. It was by no means a good show, but I wouldn't have called Code Geass good either. But at least they were entertaining in that made-me-want-to-kick-puppies sort of way.
I must admit I haven't actually watched the first series all the way through more than once. Some episodes I have seen multiple times, but I never got around to re-watching it all. Probably partially because some parts of it were horribly painful. ;_
( ... )
Glad that you're on the mend. It really is unfair how often you get sick =3. Could you please email me so I can add your new one to contact book? I accidentally deleted it ~ meant to delete the old gogglelove one instead. Yer so I was a bit stupid there >_>;
