For larger packages UPS and FedEx are often cheaper than USPS; however you'll be hardpressed to get it to Alaska by Christmas. At this point it may be better to buy/take an extra suitcase and take it with you (but don't wrap it and take wrapping supplies with you because security may make you unwrap it). Paper boxes (the boxes reams of paper come in) and plain brown paper or inside out grocery bags make great shipping boxes if you do need to ship.

Well, I sent it off yesterday via UPS. They charged what seemed like a lot but I'm paying for convenience and piece of mind. I have no idea what the post office charges for such boxes but I hear it's about the same anyway.

I'm just glad it's done.

It cost me close to $30 to mail a 12x12x8 box to Oki and Iraq (seperate boxes). Same weight via UPS was a lot less. I totally thought Hanukkah and Christmas was this weekend which is why I thought you were insane for mailing it now.

Glad to hear it's done. Hope you have a great trip!
