Writing dialogue for fiction is really very tricky- if you read a movie script, the dialogue looks kind of weird, even boring- because actors flesh out the words with visuals. I read somewhere that Gustave Flaubert agonised for incredible periods of time over the dialogue in 'Madame Bovary'- he'd spend months on a single exchange between characters.

It's so true. I'm in the middle of writing a story right now and I'm having trouble expressing dialog without it sounding repetitive.
