Dear Father,
I suppose I knew this day would come eventually. It was destined to happen, even if I spent the last year pretending that it might never. Programs such as this one do not last forever and I knew this one would be no different. Despite knowing this, packing is becoming an issue.
Never before has it been so hard not to merely walk away with a bag over my shoulder and a gun at my waist. Never before have I had boxes to ship back. Please expect them within the next two weeks. I have shipped them home, so please inform Mother they are coming.
I am uncertain if I will return straight away, hence informing you of the boxes. That is the purpose of this letter. I will be back when I come back, not before. I hope, once I return, I may once more resume my post.
Sincerely,
Z. David
