I was one of the first, like, ten people at Dalhousie to get Facebook back in the day. I signed up for it because I'm a nerd who wanted to see who was in her classes (this was back when it was restricted to university students and only people at your university could see your profile). Now that it has grown popular and is used as a stalking device by a disturbing number of creeps, I wish I had never bothered. It's not a completely horrible thing; the Doug Moore Fan Club is a perfect example of how Facebook can be used to unite people for a great cause.

But yeah, I don't think you should be swayed if you don't really care to join. It's essentially social masturbation, except not that satisfying. All it's good for is reminding you about birthdays and keeping in touch with people you otherwise probably wouldn't care enough to keep in touch with.

"If your camera does not have a manual zoom, you are not a semi-professional photographer. You're a girl who likes to take pictures."

You have no idea how close to home this hits.

Facebook's the only real way to know how popular you are compared to other people.

It's important stuff at work.

PS - Great seeing you last night, as always.

For someone else who hates signing up for all those terrible online friend fests (See: Hi-5), facebook is actually decently amusing. Something you can do while bored on the internet that isn't looking up IRC quotes or semi-interesting stories written by internet geeks. Plus, anywhere that has a shrine dedicated to Douglas Moore can't be all bad.

I have a facebook account (signed up on a whim but never used it) cause I am a whore like that, but I never ever EVER got a myspace, even that was just too trendy for my likes.
