So I take it I'll need a cooler? With ice? How long does ice last? I seem to recall there being a store within two miles, I bet they sell ice if I need a refill.
We have the bus for there and back, but I don't know how much I'll have to be responsible for carrying, and how far between sites, so I'm also considering the weight of all I pack, especially if I end up having to carry it a mile or two. *ponders*
The only time I went camping (a week high up in the mountains of New Mexico with a group of young women whose families were staying at Philmont Scout Ranch -- it turned out to be quite an ordeal), we had packages of dried camp food which can be found at any large camping/outdoors supply store.
Wow, it looks awesome! I bet you will have a blast.
There are lots of recipes out there for easy to cook, or even no cook camping food. Try the boyscouts on the internet. My friend Matt, who hiked the whole Appalachian trail swears by snickers bars and those lipton side which are super easy. Also you can pick up a simple and small camp stove, the kind hikers use, that is compact and light and then you can cook if you want to if you are worried about fire access. Although, most people are pretty friendly and I bet they would let you hang out with them and roast a hot dog or two. Also don't forget to bring a water bottle that you can take hiking with you! Maybe bring a couple of bottles of Gatorade, for any possible dehydration risks. Oh, and Have a great time!
