Pop Tabs
Onew/Minho ; G
“What letter do you think it’ll land on this time?”
“Mmm, dunno. Just try it out and see what letter it lands on,”
“Mmkay.”
The soda tab love estimator. They knew it wasn’t factual for a can tab to foresee what the first letter of that special person’s name that has a crush on you; but, it was just a bittersweet game to play to pass a good few minutes as they walked home from school.
They’ve played the same game since their elementary days, and it never failed to amuse them, rain or shine.
Jinki took a sip of his soda, then placed his finger on the tip of tap, pursing his lips to dramatize the situation of the game leaving Minho to chuckle softly. He kept a punctilious view of what letter the tab swayed for, as he anticipated for one certain letter. Just one letter.
A. Forward.
B. Backwards.
C. Forward.
D. Backwards again.
The cycle kept on, until the metal loosened close to K, snapping at M.
Minho felt the blood flow throughout his body at a stop as they continued to walk on the dirt path. Out of all the letters of the alphabet never had this ever occurred, usually it was everything but that.
“Wow, M. Who’s name begins with M?”
“I dunno, do you know any girls?”
“…Min…ji?” Jinki furrowed his eyebrows, concentrating at the tab between his fingers. “Doubt it. She‘s just a kid.”
“Give yourself some hope, hyung. It’s just a game anyways,” In all truth, it wasn’t just that.
The dirt path came to a stop at two directions, and the boy’s walked their own paths as their hands waving goodbye to each other.
Minho still had a long way from home but the lengthy travel gave him time to sort out the events of the day, pin-pointing small details and he asked himself questions. When his thoughts dragged to Jinki, his heart cracked. He had fondness towards Jinki. This silly crush wasn’t there for years or long dreary months, but for a couple weeks now. He admitted this to his own self that he was unsettled with his own feelings.
No, he wasn’t gay. Well, maybe. No, he didn’t know.
Minho just cared for Jinki too much. He'd been there since they were toddlers, bumping into each other at the park, jumping around the playground as they played tag. They didn’t know each other but for the love of the amusement, and together dragged kids just to play with them.
That memory stuck to Minho like gum. He liked it the best, because then there was no care in the world of what you felt because it was simple. Simple was nice. It was relaxing.
His pocket began to vibrate, snapping the boy A text message, from Jinki. Two text messages in total, actually.
Minho, we’ve been friends as long as I can remember,
and you’ve been there for me, always.
Honestly, I may seem blind. Deaf, unaware of
everyday things.
I’ve cheated that pop tab game, did you
notice that? Bet not.
I pulled the tab on ‘M’ purposely, tbqh.

Before Minho could react to anything(literally) another text came up on the screen. His hands trembled as he held the cell phone.
P.S. Uh…before you start jumping for joy,
turn around? : )
Stopping right on the spot, Minho let his body slowly sway back, finding Jinki standing there from a distance, waving with the can of soda in his hand. Pop tab in the other.
“Maybe this time, the game doesn’t just guess, huh?” Jinki yelled breathily, a smile on his face.
Minho couldn’t help but agree. "I'm up for it if you promise me never to run this far just to do this, hyung. You must be crazy!"
"Maybe I am." Maybe Jinki was.
A.N: Did I turn Minho into a girl again? Hohoho, maybe I did.
