Back with my parents for the few days before I leave. Tonight, we had a pseudo-Christmas, with proper dinner, tree and presents. It was good, but I did have to avoid thinking about how upset my mom's probably going to be on actual-Christmas. First time in the history of my family that we won't be together for it

We've made a point of moving around for Christmas, but my mother has never been alone - she has always been with a close relative.

OTOH, I think the odds are at least 50/50 that this will be our last one with her, so I don't think this one is going to be easy. :-(
