It's been quite a while since I've written. Let's see.
Just after my last post of substance, my mom had to cancel coming to watch the girls because my Grandmother fell and broke her pelvis. It turned out she also had massive infections, and for a while looked like she might not make it. My FIL driove down early to watch the girls for the week while dlatimer and I had to both be out on travel. My Grammy pulled through, and is now staying at a nursing home. She hates it, though. I don't blame her. Amelia's ear infection came back and Grandpa (
dlatimer 's dad) went to the ER with me Friday night to get more antibiotics instead of waiting through the weekend before trying to make an appointment. That was the week of my first California business trip.
That next weekend was
dlatimer 's birthday, and we also celebrated Eloise's 3rd birthday with a cake while Grandpa was still here. On Eloise's actual birthday, we bought cupcakes for preschool, and she requested pancakes for dinner so we met up with Adam, Lisa, Chloe, Janel, Jackson, Foster, and Drew for dinner at IHOP. They even sang "Happy Birthday" for Eloise and brought her a small dish of icecream.
The day before Easter Kathy's brother, sister-in-law, and niece came to visit for the afternoon. The girls all had a good time playing and coloring eggs. Easter Sunday was tons of fun and the girls had a great time hunting for Easter eggs at church.
The week of April 20th I spent in New York for business. Lots of good engineering, and I even got to see some hardware! Our usual late Thursday event went on until after midnight! It was a record 12.5 hour telecon. Afterward, my coworkers in the car in front of me on the way back to the hotel narrowly avoided being rammed by an oncoming car. Scary. That same day Amelia's ear infection came back. The doctor this time gave us an extra-long antibiotic treatment to see if that would knock it out.
Sometime in April I attended an audit in Baltimore. One weekend we had the Timm's over for burgers.
Three days after Amelia's antibiotics, on April 23rd, she got a fever, so we were afraid her infection was back again - but this time it seemed to be something different and was instead a lingering low-grade fever that went on for days. Then Eloise caught it, so we called in the help of Grandpa once again. I had another California business trip to attend the first week of May, and he ended up staying that entire week as well. My trip was out to El Segundo, and it was great to see the old turf again. I got to have dinner with Cathy, and spent a couple evenings in downtown. I really do miss it, but it also motivated me to focus on making the best memories possible now here in Virginia. The day I came home,
dlatimer left for a weekend training for CAP. So I had the girls all to myself for mother's day weekend. We had a blast! The weather was mostly nice, and we got in a lot of playing and even a trip to the 1st farmer's market.of the season. I picked up some rubarb at the market, and made my first ever strawberry-rubarb cobbler. I think I won't use quite as much corn starch next time.
dlatimer came home Sunday night and watched the girls while I mowed the foot-tall lawn. (And I actually enjoy mowing, so that was OK for mother's day)
And in various days throughout the month
dlatimer and I installed and planted a garden. We have zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon (Eloise's request), carrots, and tarragon. We put a plastic fence all the way around, and this morning watched as a rabbit looked longingly at the plants from outside the fence, unable to get it. Rabbit denied!
That brings us to this week. Tuesday I was up in Maryland, and today I was off-site, but local, for half the day.
dlatimer went back to work after dinner to get some stuff done. Dinner tonight was Indian chickpeas and chicken - and Amelia loves chickpeas! Eloise loved the bread, and had some chicken, but avoided the chickpeas. I've haven't been able to cook nearly as much as I used to. And through everything, the girls have been growing bigger, and are happy, sweet little girls! They are still having a great time at daycare during the week, and love to play outside when we're home.
I just got a call from
dlatimer , and he will be home shortly. Signing off.
