One of the things I remember about The Unbearable Lightness of Being was how upset the female protagonist was that her lover's hair always smelled of other women's bodies. She loved him anyway.
I could imagine Neal reading this and thinking of him and Kate.
I should have known better than to use two books I've never actually read. ;-) Asimov is a favorite of my mother's and the other one -- well, the title really works.
So would Kate's hair smell of other women's/men's bodies? Or are you saying Kate would forgive Neal for thinking of Peter and not her? Or something else entirely that I'm not quite getting? ;-)

You break my heart and put it back together. It's sexy in such a bleak, dystopian way. There's still joy, though. Because it helps Neal to survive.
Thank you is such a lackluster phrase - I am grateful beyond measure for this.
