Well, the "prep" part of it is that they're rich and snooty and wear pearl necklaces with khakis and button down shirts and a sweater draped over their shoulders and are generally not cool.

...The best example I can think of is earlyintheseries Cordelia (...if that's even her name, I'm too lazy to go look) from Buffy The Vampire Slayer but that might mean nothing to you.

Coincidentally, she misspells Cornelius Fudge as Cornelia, and combined with the author's name being Tara and the friend's character's name being Willow, I first was suspicious that it was a troll fic. I'm actually disappointed that means nothing now.
