It's probably because in recent times the French have been notorious for their "We are better than you" attitude in almost everything; and Americans like to think they're better. So possibly because of the ego clashes of recent times?

Makes a bit of sense, I suppose. That, and like... they've made things difficult for us in the UN since around 2003, because they opposed the Iraq war.

So it's not like they're in agreement about everything, but... still doesn't seem like enough to justify vilifying them more than our actual enemies. *siiiiigh*

Also: is it just me, or has Hetalia ruined you for hearing about world affairs forever? This book I'm quoting from keeps talking about recent France-US relations in terms of a bad divorce.
