A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession.
- Albert Camus

So today I took me boss aside and had a long chat about life, the universe and why he’d pay a new recruit £5,000 more than he pays me for doing the same job I did when I first walked in. He explained that life was short, the universe was small, and my colleague was ( Read more... )

In two words - that sucks.

I sympathise though as I've taken on a massive amount of extra work and responsibility with zero benefits. I'm holding out to see what Christmas brings else it may be a case of applying pressure ...

So, any more concrete plans on heading oop North?

I can only echo Tim - that's really sucky.

Doesn't living outside London look more and more attractive?

Yeah, I figure I'll look for another job nearer home as soon as I can, and look into moving North in late spring. Andrea's already been looking at optins up there, I was an idiot to think I could wait. I'm partly wondering whether it might be time to look at working for the police again. I really want to get a job where I'm improving things. Does anybody know of any options that I might not have heard of/ considered? I know Jen works on Neighbourhood Regeneration (it's called something else, I suspect) and that sounds interesting (albeit stressful).

I believe it is actually Neighbourhood Regeneration - she works for Ground Work. I'll prod her in the general direction of this and she'll be able to come up with some more ideas than I. :)

Would it help to say I love you lots?

:-)

And that I've been looking into all the other stressful bits like how we would travel to places up north and where we could live with easy access to Leeds (for example).

I now have quite a well rounded idea of how much it would cost to live up north.

I've long been a fan of the East Coast Main Line.

If he does the same job as you and gets paid more, that's illegal. You should raise a grievance and then take your boss to employment tribunal. Huzzah!
