There is a war.  I can hardly think back to a time when there was not a war in some capacity.  A debate waged between proponents of strong- and weak- Ai.  Between those who believe that artificial intelligence will one day attain consciousness and sentience, and those who believe that it can never become more than a particularly useful and clever ( Read more... )

I think I have a draft version of it around somewhere ... Not quite sure how good it is though - my writing and communication skills have come on an awful lot since that period of my life. Also, I'm a lot more balanced in my view points these days than I was back then.

Still, remind me next time you're at ours (or we're coming to see you etc.) and I'll see if I can dig it out.

I've often noticed that fascinating subject matter is regularly accompanied by a rather difficult style of writing. I'm not sure whether that relates most to interested academics or to my regular subject matter, though ;¬) I'd certainly love to struggle my way through that dissertation.
