*hugs* I had neighbors who abandoned their cats, and it totally turned my stomach. People are so cruel to animals. I hope they get the help they need and the kittens get good homes!
I'm doing ok, things are pretty much the way they always are- I'm stressed and feeling poor (ah, the life of a grad student!). But I'm really excited to be going to visit my parents on Friday- my mom is going to be getting a puppy from Honey's breeder! Honey herself is feeling pretty good because she finally managed to startle the white tailed deer that graze in my lawn. Hee!
It seems like this country is so bad about not taking care of animals. People get a pet, then are like, "I can't take care of it, so I will just let it go/give it to a shelter, etc, blah blah blah *insert any number of reasons*" And then we have a major stray population problem.
It makes me sick. I know when I got my cats that I was making a LIFETIME commitment to them. That I would provide them with food and shelter. Not a few years of a place, then when things got tough, to let them go.
I remember being shocked in Sweden when I found out they have little to no strays there. People in other countries actually CARE about the animals.
I wish we could do the same here. Thank you for trying to do something about it.
Neighbors.... why don´t they keep their noses out of someone else´s bussines??
If they are so worried about the girl being upset, why don´t they give her a cat and that´s settled? The thing is that the kid and the grandmother don´t want the hassle of vet, caring of the animal and etc... like we say in Mexico... they want the milk for free with out having the cow.
You did the right thing. I'm glad the animal control people were on your side. They must see neglected animals constantly, and be grateful you were preventing another feral cat colony from developing.
