And for parents, well, sometimes I understand the advertisement all too well!

It's absolutely true. Having a puppy (or a kitten) is like having a child all over again.

Maybe I'm in too much of an angsty mood, but while I do see the surface humor, the actual times that a pet does get "kicked out" when a new baby is born is all too familiar and really sad.

and that's the exact point of the story. it's not meant to be truly funny... we see this all too often in boxer rescue. :(
