The Torah is the first five books of the bible. It usually comes on giant scrolls in Hebrew.
I have a copy of the full Old Testament that has Hebrew on one side and English on the other, could be what he had. They call that a Tanakh (which is an acronym T-N-K, Torah, something, something)
It's Torah [or Chumash], Nevi'im, Ketuvim, which means the Law/Instructions/Five [which corresponds to the Greek Pentateuch], the Prophets, and the Writings.
The yoga mat is most likely a camping mat. It is usually placed under a tent/sleeping bag for extra cushion between rock and bones. Or maybe it was a tarp and her bag was full of Crisco and latex gloves.
I really enjoy reading your travel posts.
Especially when they include beads and infant eating.
Ditto. I would miss these if you decide to fly instead of amtrak it.
My delightful husband once proclaimed after seeing a particularly trashy backyard at one of our relative's houses, "Wow, it looks like the house threw up." I think most backyards in view of a train usually take on that demeanor.
