[Recording clicks on. Roy walks away from the device and stands behind a cement table to face the camera.]
I've found a better use for this thing than keeping a diary. It happened by accident, while I was emptying it of messages it's accumulated during my stay here. The housing notices, the invitations to various events, nothing I have any interest in keeping. This small device seemed useful only for keeping in contact with the others. But since the others seem to have given up on ever getting out of here, I have no reason to contact them.
I am interested, however, in this thing's recording properties.
[He holds up a large sheet of paper with a complicated array sketched on it in charcoal, then lays it on the table.] I've decided to open up a portal. It may be possible to connect with my world through that Gate I saw when I was dead. Edward talked about seeing the Gate and interacting with it; perhaps I can do the same.
Commander Riker, though you're no longer with us -- and lucky in that respect -- I won't stop searching for a way out. You're the inspiration for this particular array. I expect good results from this new angle.
Now, while my roommate is out and can't get in my way... [He rolls up his sleeves, smiles crookedly at the camera and places his hands on the sheet of paper.] Experiment 2, aka Riker, begins.
[Roy exhales, claps his hands and smacks them back onto the paper. Red light fills the array and swells, a swirling column of bloody electricity crackling and snapping upward. It hits the ceiling of the apartment, scratches at it, then suddenly jerks. Roy spits out a cuss word before the light explodes. The 1337pod is knocked from its stand, and the video stops when it hits the floor.]
