Putting the ‘Fun’ in Dysfunctional
“So how is the old man?” JJ asked as she plopped down on the couch next to Sam and handed him a beer.
“Still a self centered jackass who thinks he can control everyone,” Sam grumbled, taking a swing of the beer.
“Visit went that well, hunh?” she smirked and he sighed.
“Yeah. He wanted me to go back into the military where I could - wait for this - ‘really make a difference’,” he said sarcastically and she winced.
“Tell me you decked him,” she said and he laughed.
“No. But I did tell him no, which he had some difficulty understanding,” he said and she snorted.
“No kidding. I remember when I told him I wasn’t going to be taking his last name after my mom died. And that I would be staying in the US,” she said and he grimaced.
“That… wasn’t pretty,” Sam agreed.
“I mean, what did he think, that after 16 years of him basically ignoring me I was going to suddenly up and move to Canada? I mean, come on. The man divorced his wife and leaves her and his three year old son and moves to the US, knocks up a woman and then leaves her to go back to his ex-wife and remarries her? What does he think my reaction is going to be?” she asked and Sam shrugged.
“I know. It was never fair to you, Jen,” he said and she sighed.
“It wasn’t fair to you, either, Sammy. Hell, I think I might have gotten the better end of the deal. I didn’t have to live with him,” she grinned and he laughed.
“Either way, I’d say we both turned out alright,” he said raising his bottle, which she clincked with her own.
“We put the ‘fun’ in dysfunctional,” she joked.
