from what i've experienced, misery is someone's chosen response to a situation. It's similar to dispair, only without as much hopelessness. It's self-induced, but that's not to say it isn't needed. I've spend many an hour/day/week/month, in misery, and it helped me get over the sense that i couldn't do anything to change the situation at the time. It resulted in lots of other venting, to get my mind off my self-induced misery. I got alot of things done (written, painted, etc...) at the cost of myself & my misery. Anguish & disconnection, I believe, are the major fore-feelings to misery. Anguish & disconnection are not ways you chose to feel, but resting upon them more & more results in feelings of misery. Misery can evolve into envy, dispair, depression, or self-isolation. It can turn into a great deal of worse human conditions, the gateway drug so to speak, for the self-inflicted soul. But, like marijuana, it's not necissarily bad if moderated. Yeah, you get the urge to feel miserable, but where you decide to outlet yourself after ( ... )
