I've not personally had a problem with overheating - but my dad has a Dell, and his gets very hot.
Like I said to you a couple of weeks ago, resist the urge to get a HP. They have impossible customer service people, they are really buggy, and very expensive to get sent off/fixed.

it cost me 700 dollars and was delivered to my house. It came with windows XP, wireless, 2 USB, dvd rom and it's got a pretty big harddrive. It was a government lease item in it's past life and has a broken lid latch. It's really small, only 12 inch I think, and Claire's new Dell one is about 17inch and she says it's too big to be versatile.
It was a good deal. I wouldn't expect anything more for 700 dollars.
By the way, I found the exact same model but brand new at a computer fair and it was 500 bucks more. I've had no trouble with a second hand model and I'd recommend ex gov lease to anyone.
New or old I totally recomend Dell or Toshiba (and definitely not HP!!).
The only other thing I can say is make sure it comes with an operating system.
