Good luck and congrats, bud. This is some pretty cool news to hear. I had a gut feeling after our last talk that you would probably wind up staying there, not sure why. And you're absolutely right -- at the very least, even if it winds up not being permanent, well, you couldn't ask for a better building block for your career. And you're also landing a solid job in a stable company in this type of economy, and that is no short order to fulfill.

Might spilling the beans on your dissertation proposal?

I don't mind spilling the beans so much as I don't think anyone'll be that interested, but here's the abstract, just for kicks. Anybody who's really that interested should just email me, and I can mail them the full proposal ( ... )

Congratulations on the job offer and the proposal, Chris. I haven't talked to you in a while, but it sounds like you've continued to do very well for yourself. Your proposal sounds like something my wife might be interested in reading; would you mind sending a copy to johnson dot william at gmail dot com?

I'm hoping the Microsoft position and Seattle treat you and Annalisa well. Like Jeremy said, though, I've long thought of you as one of the uncommon guys who's going to do very well for yourself regardless of where you choose to go or what you decide to do.

As a final sidebar, may the gods curse you for introducing me to Fantastic Contraption.
