"I must take issue with the writer's use of the phrase "semi-tumescent." It is a pleonasm, as "tumescent" is used to describe something that is incompletely swollen, just as an adolescent is not quite an adult, and something obsolescent is not quite obsolete. Tumescent's analogous partner is tumid."
