I just finished reading !
I have just finished reading The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls by Emilie Autumn.
The book looks big but the inside has a lot of artwork and the writing isn't really small and it doesn't go up to the edges or anything. The reason the book is big is because it looks cool that way.The same goes for the pages; every page has artwork on it and is in full colour, the pages are made of thick glossy paper. This makes sense since Emilie puts a lot of effort into her live performances to make them as glamorous and glittery as possible instead of other musicians that turn up in everyday clothes and sit there and sing, so why should the book be any different ?? It wouldn't make sense to have a paperback with plain white pages, I feel that the effort put into the aesthetics of the book make the experience of reading it much more exciting.
The book is made up of five diaries. The two main diaries are: 1.Emilies autobiographical story of her stay in an asylum, and 2.A fictional diary of Emily who was imprisoned in an asylum in Victorian London. The other diaries included are: 1. Emilies cutting diary, 2.Emilies medication diary, 3.Emilies suicide diary. These three diaries share exactly what happened and Emilies thoughts and feelings as things were happening.
This is a great book, I learned alot about history and mental illness. Also I was entertained and the story kept me hooked. I recommend this book !!!
Thankyou!
Hannah
