Gen fanworks exchange

Sep 06, 2016 22:22

Sorry about the delay in getting this community rolling again! I'm back from vacation and thinking about what to do next. Earlier in the year, we discussed doing some kind of gen fanworks exchange. At this time of year, if we did something like that, it makes the most sense to do it as as either an autumn or winter holiday exchange.

Have a poll!

I like the idea in general, but I'm not so sure about the date (October/November is the time when the White Collar BB finishes, and Christmas/early January clashes with fandom stocking). Maybe February? I guess there's always something...

Yeah, I think that's the problem -- there is ALWAYS something else going on. Winter is the busiest season with all the Christmas/winter-holiday exchanges, but there are getting to be a bunch of things in Jan/Feb too. I think we're just going to have to pick a time and squeeze something in. D:

(Though, fandom-specific, I did forget the BB was finishing up right now.)

I think these smaller 1k word count challenges (assuming that the minimum is 1k or lower :P) are the only way I can participate in fandom anymore xD College. *trips, falls, hugs mattress*

It will definitely be a low minimum! Maybe even 500 instead of 1000 wds; I've participated in a couple of fests lately that have lowered the minimum to that, and it seems to work fine.

I like the idea of the candy baskets and the fandom stockings. That way, you can choose what you want to contribute, art, fic, something else. I think that would be the least strain on everybody. But that is my thoughts.

I am fascinated to see that the results are 100% tied right now! It's possible we might end up doing both.

Sounds good to me, I like the idea. It isn´t that much of an effort, I think, to contribute in a stocking or basket.

I like the idea of a fandom stocking type exchange, though maybe better to do that either Oct/Nov or Feb/March, so as not to clash. The other type of exchange would be fine too.

I don't celebrate halloween, so will have to think about whether I could enter something based on that. Not that that should stop you, of course, I know I'm in the minority here!! Though if you did decide against halloween, it could be harvest related - harvest baskets? *unsure*

Yeah, I don't think I'd do it in a time frame that would overlap directly with Fandom Stocking. I think doing it as a harvest-festival kind of thing, rather than a Halloween-derived project sounds fine ... let me think about how the wording might be changed! Because harvest festivals are also a thing at this time of year, so that fits the theme just fine. :D

Yay. :) So far EVERYTHING is tied, which is hilarious. XD But there's lots of interest, so we might even do both!

It is hilarious! Even more so, I saw a poll meant as a joke on Twitter the other day - the 2 choices were identical. The result after 8000 votes was... 60/40. No such thing as random choices apparently...

haha, wow. XD People are so ... odd!

Anyway, I put up a new post suggesting both (not, obviously, at once). People do not have to participate in both, of course! Or in either! But since opinion seems to be split, and there are a number of participants interested in both options, it seemed like a good compromise.
