Call me stupid, but how do we attach gifs, vids, etc...?

You need to use HTML coding just like with any other comment... I have no idea if you can embed a vid in a comment (you can get the embed code from the vid's page)... for pics you can use the code:

Well, yeah, first you need to upload the pics somewhere... with dropbox you need to remember to always change www.dropbox.com to dl.dropbox.com in your link, otherwise it doesn't work on LJ.

I just found this wonderful community. I was wondering if I find something that catches my eye to fill can I if I am not signed up for the baskets.

Oh, absolutely you may! :) Filling baskets/prompts is very welcome at any time.

We also have regular prompting rounds, which we'll go back to after the fall fest is over.
