Day 17

To be honest, I was a little afraid of this question because the “comic relief” is not often a relief to me and I thought I could count the goofy types I hated into the dozens, but once I realized the pool of candidates I should be looking at, the shortlist got surprising long. Who knew? ;)

Yeah, I mostly agree with you though I think they key is what kinds of shows we're talking about. A light moment here or there is ok, but I rarely like excessive goofiness in more serious shows. But in comedies, family shows, etc, there's a place for it; it's just finding a character that doesn't annoy in the process! (That's the part I usually find hard!)

Morita from Honey and Clover. So random, so hilarious. Also Ed from Cowboy Bebop, although apparently everyone reading this hates Cowboy Bebop, lol.

Love Ed, Ein, and Jet. Hate tragedy. Don't like Fay except for her super-special episode near the end which was very touching. Hate tragedy. What will become of Jet? Really love Ein, but in the end he was underused. Hate tragedy?

Yeah, I am with you on tragedy. My favorite episodes are the funny ones, like when they search the galaxy for the last working Betamax player. XD

(OK, that's not really what the episode is about, but it is in my head canon.)

Aww, dammit! You totally had me jazzed for that!

You would think this would be a really easy one for me, given my favorite character - but the things I love about my goofy favorites are the moments when they drop the goofy facade and get totally serious, so it doesn't realy feel right to use any of them as my favorite.

But there are a few other types of characters I like even when they're being completely outrageous, and topping that list:

Buggy the Clown - I swear, the longer the series goes, the funnier he gets. He's greedy and kind of dumb, but he's hard to label as a true "bad guy", even though he wants to be; and that makes it all the more hilarious when he gets tricked into doing good things.

Surprise, it's One Piece! ;) collarnojutsu July 19 2011, 02:30:51 UTC
You've seen him way more than I have, but I actually believe you about Buggy. I kind of didn't like him (AT ALL) when it was his arc back in the beginning, but the last time he showed up (as far as I've watched) he was suddenly way funnier. Just took time to grow on me, I guess, so I look forward to seeing more later. :)
