Day 23

Jul 23, 2011 13:25

This one is tough in a way that the other questions were not. Shounen is a genre whose themes and character types I really latch onto like craaaazy but whose shows I rarely finish. It's also the genre most represented in my backlog/want-to-watch list. I suppose it’s also no help that among the ones I’m most considering half are still running; I ( Read more... )

I don't really have to post for this one, do I? ;) After 500 episodes of continually thinking "How in the world is Oda going to top this?!" only to have him turn around and totally outdo himself; yeah, there's only one real answer for me^^

Runners up (considering anime only):
GTO
Fairy Tail
Hunter X Hunter

Hikago, which makes it hugely ironic that I don't own it. It gets mega bonus points for being a shounen anime I've actually watched in its entirety, as opposed to YYH, Bleach, and even Rurouni Kenshin.

Yay! Hikaru no Go was how I answered this question the first time around, largely in part because I actually finished it (and liked it, and watched it again). Actually, in my original edit of this post there was a line about how few shounen series I actually HAVE finished -- seriously, it's got to be less than I can count on two hands - so I strongly considered naming it again here. I suppose there were various reasons as to why I did not, though I can't say the decision making process was entirely targeted or logical ( ... )

Yeah, I have to say that One Piece wins hands down for me at this point as well. It's the only thing I have ever watched 250+ episodes of. (Just finished #243, confidently expect to break 250 by dinnertime. Heck, I think my previous record barely broke 100, and that was Inuyasha. There were more episodes, of course, but I never finished it.)

Runner-up would be Rurouni Kenshin (of course), and after that, probably Ranma (which I don't really think of as shounen, but of course it is).

Ack! I was thinking you were on a break and then the Manga/Anime difference posts kind of slipped my mind - time to get back to them I see^^

But yay for you getting so far! (oh god, that means you just watched 236 though - just as a warning; those tissues you pulled out for that episode - just keep them out, W7 is easily one of the most tearjerker arcs in anime history)

I'm going to say that, since this category is anime, I will go with Hunter × Hunter. (Manga would be a different story.) I think it's the shounen series for which I own the most commercially released episodes. The anime did a really good job of including the best parts of the manga--while stopping before the manga went wack. It also has some GREAT OP/ED songs. (I still love singing Ohayo at karaoke.)

My runner up would be Meitantei Conan, which has awesome characters, but too little plot development to top the list. (I wonder if the anime has gotten around to the police kiss yet; that was the most development to have happened in YEARS.)

Hard for me to name One Piece when I've seen so little (relatively speaking) of the anime, and same with Hikaru no Go, really. So I'll go with Hunter x Hunter (and not just because I'm watching it right now). Even if the anime made some changes that really annoy me, I still love it.
