Robin hears the knock as she walks down the stairs, towards the kitchen.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" she shouts, changing her route and opening the front door.

She looks their visitor up and down, and upon recognizing her, says, "Oh, it's you."

Oh, good. Robin told her.

"Yeah," Claire says. "Is Ashley around?"

"Nn, yeah. I think she's upstairs. Shall I get her for you?"

She holds open the door, and gestures inside.

"Please, come in."

Claire hesitates briefly, then steps inside the house. "Thanks. And yeah, if you could get her, that'd be nice."

She has itchy neck, and for a moment, she looks around to try to figure out why. Ah, that would be because of the nice men in sunglasses across the street.

*Ashley nods, not sure if she would have been more shocked had Claire said the child was a newborn. After regarding the other woman for a minute, she decides that she can probably see Claire as a mother figure--most likely one of those best friend/buddy-buddy types.*

Twelve, that's cool. I hope she's not like my cousins; they can be little brats sometimes.

Claire isn't really thinking of herself as a mother figure... but, well, you know.

"Nah, she's pretty quiet. She's smart, she reads a lot... I've just gotta be sure to try to draw her out every so often. She spent a lot of time alone when her parents were alive..."

Claire shakes her head. "Her mom and dad died in Raccoon City." No sense in talking about that any more than necessary...

That's awful! Poor girl...

*Ashley trails off before beginning again.*

Well...at least she's got a place to go, and not to some orphanage or foster care or something.

"She might honestly have been better off. I wound up with her after her aunt... well, she wasn't abusive, but she was neglectful."
