http://www.avclub.com/articles/doctor-who,39924/2/ Read the article, lulz at the piss they take out of the show occasionally, view the clips, and LET'S HAVE SOME EPIC DISCUSSION ON HERE, SHALL WE?
Srsly, I know I got me some Whovians on this FList of mine...I'd like to hear what you guys think of this article! Personally, I loved it, although I

Bring out the OH SNAP diagram.
ETA: Just read it all and I hate how they recommend GIRL IN THE GODDAMN FIREPLACE. It's the low point of S2; the author should've mentioned School Reunion or Doomsday because those are the high points of S2. (This is not just because I greatly dislike Sophia whateverherface is but also because the episode is slowly paced, weird, and just meh)

The history episodes hung on for several years, but their days were numbered.
Which is sad. Episodes like The Romans or The Highlanders are among my favourites. We didn't even get a real historic one in the new series so far. They all had very strong Sci-Fi elements. :(
The article is quite well written as a short over view of the various eras (I like the comparison of the TARDIS to the wardrobe or the looking glass). I'm struggling a bit with this line
He expired with a quiet dignity that also conveniently marked the last time Doctor Who was worth paying any serious attention to until “Rose” in 2005. as I think McCoy's last season was actually quite good. Oh and Davison's era as dark and bleak? I wish! Bleak, yes, but more in a slow-moving plot sense. Don't get me wrong, I like his Doctor, but most of the episodes were not exactly brilliantly written and the companions didn't help (the 'definitive' team of the time? No thank ( ... )

But at least they're giving credit to Colin Baker for being a "somewhat decent" actor, who just got stuck with the role, impossible characterisation and unbeliavably lousy scripts. You really can't help but feel bad for him.
As much as I rip on Colin Baker's era (and I do it a LOT when I get bitchy enough), I did like him in Arc of Infinity, where he was playing that guard. He showed potential, and really, unless you're George Clooney or Morgan Freeman or some other huge-name actor, you can't change what's on the page. You're pretty much stuck with what's been written for you, and you have to do the best you can with it.
I think we can ALL agree, though, that acting and writing aside, he DID get the worst costume in the history of television. XD

Aw, I liked Colin's Doctor, just not his stories and the general feel of his era (but then I also love the audio stuff and he got some brilliant scrpts there and some of the best companions ever -> old, female history professor who makes the best chocolate cake in the galaxy and a shapeshifting penguin. What more could you want?)
But yes, the costume is incredibly ugly. o.o

Hee! Frobisher! I've heard of Frobisher, but not this chocolate cake lady. I've been wanting to get into the audio dramas for a while now, but sadly, I don't have the money to do so. Oh well, maybe someday soon. :)

Though I'm one of those rare people who liked Sixth better than Seventh. But hey both got some horrible writing and companions. :P

Which makes me sad. :( I loved the historical episodes in First's era, I wish there were more of them with the others doctors that didn't involve the inevitable alien threat.
I heard the Wesley/Adric comparison before I watched either show, and now that I've seen both, I can see the comparison. :P Though I didn't loathe either as much as the rest of the fandoms seems to.
