Well thats is true and not at the same time, it really depends on the election. Yes over the last 100 hundred years 3rd-Party candidates have, more often than not, stolen votes away from left-wing candidates,but at the same time each election is a little bit different. For example, Bill Clinton won his first term in 1992 because one of the few Presidents to do so after having a majority vote against him; I believe the split was something like 43% Clinton, 36% Bush, 18% Perot. They did demographic studies of the candidates voting for Perot and came to the conclusion that George H. W. Bush had a very good chance of winning if they had been forced into one of the two major pools, so there are times when we third-wing lunatics can actually help left-wing politicians
