Burying Ledes, Not Pets

This isn’t the post I thought I was going to write.

I thought I was going to write about Pope Francis’ tone deafness with respect to his January 5th general address and its comments about pets versus children. But when I dug deeper, it turned out that the entire situation was little more than manufactured outrage and upset.

I have learned just to ignore the media coverage of whatever the Pope says, and go straight to the Vatican for the official release of his remarks.

Obviously, no matter the Pope, he rarely speaks in English to begin with, so I want to make sure it's the official Vatican English translation. But often, it's something ripped out of context, as here, and in the case you cover here, they completely missed the point. I definitely have no reason to trust secular press over this stuff, and I've learned to even distrust Catholic media on much of this (whether I like the message or not).
