My pleasure. Just realized I need a Doc Savage/pulp icon.

When my mom was buying bagsful of books at garage sales to keep her voracious reader of a daughter in material, one of those bags contained a Doc Savage book - "Doc Savage and the Sargasso Ogre." It was a lot of fun, but I don't remember much about the plot except that Doc and the crew were on a cruise ship and they were trying to figure out why ships were disappearing in the Sargasso. There was one bit I remember, Doc poured himself a glass of water from a pitcher in his state room, sipped it, and realized it was iced; since he never drank iced water, he poured the glass into the toilet, and a deadly chemical cloud went up, a trap set for him by the unnamed villains. Luckily Doc's lung capacity and superb physical fitness saved him. He was able to hold his breath and escape the room.

I wonder how they knew he would put it in the toilet and not the sink. Or just leave it sit until it hit room temperature.

I am sure the book explains it in detail. Dent never worried about leaving anything to the reader's imagination.

That was a Ken Robeson book.

Buckaroo Banzai, of course! :)

Gee...I wonder where they got the idea for him from???
Actually, I love Buckaroo. But I have to say, while you could make a serious Doc Savage adventure ala Indiana Jones, you couldn't make a wholly serious BB sequel.

Have you seen any of the DS movies? They were slightly more campy than BB was. :)

(And yes, I _LOVE_ Doc Savage.. used to devour the pulps, as my Grandparents had most of them.)

Cool. FYI - there was only one movie ever made - the one I mention in my post.

You're quite welcome. I adore the insidious doctor! I'd say he is my second place fave. :)

I love the good Doc. I even portrayed one of his crew in a radio drama reenactment.

No kidding? That's awesome. I don't suppose you were working with that radio troupe that does the gig at the WWII air show in Reading every June?

Nah. This was for a group headed by a guy who has a hobby (side job?) recording public domain scripts from the golden age of radio drama. If I find his site link (I worked with him a few years ago) I'll pass it along. But it was a great evening -- we worked live on stage, in costume, doing a handful of great pulp (Doc Savage, The Shadow, etc.) and I got to play several characters *and* play host.
