Subtitling Weirdness

Watching Neil Gaiman's interview with Stephen Colbert, the word "masochistic" has been inserted repeatedly (like 5+ times) in the subtitles, yet is never actually said. ???

PS Did Colbert tell Gaiman his questions ahead of time, or is Gaiman just that much better at being interviewed than everyone else I've ever seen on that show?

According to recent twittering by Neil, he did not in fact know the questions ahead of time. The conversation just went the way it went. This is why Neil is the coolest.
